Society Where Cursing is Common
In Korea, anyone would have the experience of waking up in the morning, preparing to start a fantastic day, and the first word one hear is a swear word from someone shouting outside. Now that I am used to the fact, it is not a strange thing anymore to guess that person as a teenager. The seriousness of this problem has got to the point that even many younger kids in elementary school use at least one swearing word in every sentence they say.
The cause to this depressing reality may be the influence of movies, especially war, gang, or action movies where there might be a lot of violence involved. Some teachers scold students for cursing, but in fact they themselves still curse in schools. The thought of using foul language as being part of the “distinguished” or “awesome” group of people could be another reason.
Whatever the cause, this phenomenon should be taken seriously. It is not something that cannot be settled. As an example, I am doing absolutely fine without swearing, so do many of my friends. People should realize how the problem has flown out of control. They need to make an effort to help make the teenage and younger society in Korea a “curse-free society.”
